Moving Through Trauma into Your Purpose

Who are you, and what do you want? Such seemingly simple questions, yet so difficult to truthfully answer. We are conditioned from a young age to act, be , do in certain ways as predicated by our caregivers.  Our identities are formed from a distorted lens, one that someone else has placed on us.

When we are traumatized or act outside of what is expected we learn how to survive .These skills can protect us from further abuse, keep us safe, deal with abandonment issues, provide a coping skill in the form of food, drugs, sex, and alcohol.

We move towards what is familiar even if it destroys us. Change is hard. Reviewing our trauma, becoming aware of old identities and how they are preventing us from living our lives to our full potential and finding our true purpose is the journey we are on.

Recognizing our bodies “wear” our trauma, and tuning into our bodies, through exercise and holistic fitness. Finding old messaging that was instilled in us until age 7 and how we act on those today, being aware of self destructive behaviors, using old identities to protect us from seeing ourselves as individuals and whole on our own, is challenging.

To find our true purpose we must be honest with ourselves and begin the task of thanking outdated thinking and habits for serving us and moving into our new self. By focusing on mindset and habits, we find our passions, the barriers both mental and physical for not following those passions and identifying new thinking that is growth oriented to help us move into the person we define and want to be.

By breaking down limiting beliefs, reviewing our trauma, focusing on our strengths and moving through our trauma do we find our purpose.

Bio:

As a recovered addict of 30 years, I resonate with the struggles our youth are facing today.  I have had the pleasure of working with at risk youth for over 15 years and am passionate about this population. Because of my own experiences both as a recovered addict and in the professional capacity, I saw the need for more experiential focused education for this population. I founded Soul Purpose ,  a 501 c3 in 2018 with the vision of educating , empowering and elevating at risk youth to see that they are more than their circumstances and their past.

I saw my own journey through the power of fitness and holistic education, so I created two programs, a mobile holistic fitness program, and the Youth Empowerment Program. I focus on empowering the youth through fitness, and vocational education. I am also working with adults who are in the same space , struggling with self destructive behavior, and am privileged to serve this population.  I am passionate for these youth and adults to see that their past is not their potential and am able to connect as a mentor , parent advocate , and QMHA (Qualified Mental Health Associate).
